Modulam For Civil Aviation Company
MODULAM ALREADY FINDING ITS FEET
Developing a ground-breaking new tooling system has already started to reap benefits for pioneers Midland Tool and Design, despite only being launched two months ago.
The Modulam tooling system, created by the Tipton-based firm to cut costs and reduce lead times, has already been called into action to create accurate prototypes for a number of international precision engineering projects.
As a result, it has allowed MTD to offer a full range of precision engineering services, including tooling, stamping, bonding and grinding.
One such application is a requirement for laser welded core stacks, which are used in torpedoes, guided missiles, and military planes and helicopters.
Managing Director Darren Booton said: “Modulam has been called into action very quickly, exceeding the expectations we set when the system was launched in December.
“The first major project, for an international civil aviation company, required us to integrate the system with our stacking and bonding operations, before grinding the laminations in our temperature controlled facilities.
“Very few companies can offer this range of services in-house, and now we also have the ability to do that quicker and more cost-effectively.”
Bosses are also expecting to use Modulam on several forthcoming projects, creating high performance and efficiency motors for aerospace, autosports and medical components
